Key socialization period is between 3-16 weeks old when puppies are primed to build curiosity, confidence and coping mechanisms.
Have all types hold, pet, feed and play with pup including men, women, kids, elderly, people with accessories or using mobility aids.
Arrange supervised, on-leash interactions with friendly adult dogs plus expose to sights and sounds of common household pets.
Take pups on car rides, walk by schoolyards when class is out, visit stores allowing pets so they adapt to sites and sounds.
Let pup walk on various surfaces - wood, tile, grass, gravel etc. Play radio, TV and normal household noise at low volumes.
Well-socialized puppies grow into friendly, confident adult dogs. They develop better coping skills and are less likely to be reactive or aggressive.
Enlist friends and family to assist with safe, positive puppy play dates. Socialization builds their world view - help expand it!
