Dog Breeds at Higher Risk of Heatstroke

With shortened airways and difficulty panting, pugs and other flat-faced breeds are more prone to overheating.

Pugs

Like pugs, bulldogs have compromised breathing from their squashed muzzles and are at high risk in heat and humidity.

Bulldogs

Brachycephalic boxers don't pant efficiently leading to excessive heat buildup. Their short light coats offer little insulation or shade.

Boxers

Shih tzus' small size, long coat, and flat face make it hard for them to stay cool, putting them at added risk of heatstroke.

Shih Tzu

Despite seeming able to handle cold weather, huskies struggle in heat due to their heavy double coat which hinders cooling.

Huskies

Chow chows thick double coat and innate cold hardiness leave them prone to overheating faster than other breeds.

Chow Chow

Dogs with heatstroke need immediate help and will urgently need to have their body temperature lowered gradually
